Danville Community School Corp. Receives $13,508 in Rebates

Danville Community School Corp. has received $13,508 in Power Moves energy-efficiency rebates from Hendricks Power with support from Wabash Valley Power Alliance. The rebates helped support energy-efficient upgrades at the district’s new transportation facility, which opened in August.

The new facility is the first Danville Community School Corp. facility served by Hendricks Power. Located on the edge of the district’s campus, the transportation center includes five full-size bus bays, a training room, administrative offices, and secure outdoor parking for more than 30 buses. 

The buses transport nearly 2,000 Danville students to and from school each day.
Rapid growth in the community and school district created the need for the new facility. The district’s transportation staff has grown from about 15 employees a decade ago to nearly 40 employees today.

As part of the new construction, the district also upgraded its diesel bus block heater system. The new heaters operate automatically based on time and temperature, reducing the amount of time they run during the winter. The previous system could operate for up to 24 hours a day, while the new system requires only about three hours of operation.

“We are glad to see schools taking advantage of energy efficiency opportunities,” said Andrew Wray, energy advisor at Hendricks Power, who worked with the district’s contractor on the rebate. “Any time a school can lower its energy use and save money, that’s a good thing for the community and for everyone.”

The new facility was constructed between mid-2025 and August 2026. The district’s former transportation center now houses administrative offices, while some staff members relocated as other spaces were converted into classrooms to accommodate the district’s growing enrollment.
