Avon Middle School West Receives Energy Efficiency Rebates from Hendricks Power Cooperative
Avon Middle School West has received more than $35,000 in new construction energy efficiency rebates from Hendricks Power with support from Wabash Valley Power Alliance. These rebates are part of Hendricks Power’s ongoing commitment to helping schools and other community members reduce energy use while investing in modern, cost effective solutions.
Avon Community School Corporation's student enrollment has been growing steadily and is projected to reach nearly 11,000 by the 2030-31 school year. To accommodate this growth and ensure students have access to high-quality learning spaces, the district constructed a new facility, Avon Middle School West, which officially opened for the 2025-2026 school year.
As part of the construction, Avon schools chose to implement a range of energy-efficient solutions designed to maximize both comfort and sustainability. This included installing LED lighting and HVAC mini-splits throughout the building. LEDs offer brighter illumination while using significantly less electricity than traditional lighting, and they have a longer lifespan, resulting in reduced energy costs and lower maintenance requirements over time. HVAC mini-splits add efficient, targeted cooling where it is needed most, offering flexibility and comfort while conserving energy.
“We are glad to see schools taking advantage of our energy efficiency incentives,” said Steve Hite, Energy Services Supervisor at Hendricks Power. “Investing in LED lighting and mini-splits not only saves energy but also helps schools direct more resources toward what matters most – the students.”
