Meet Dave Thomas

Hendricks Power Board Member and At-Large Director

Where do you live?
I live in the North Salem area. This is in District 2 of Hendricks Power Cooperative, and I currently serve as one of the At-Large Directors.

What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family, especially our two grandchildren, on our farm. I also enjoy being involved in the activities of our church, community, and charitable organizations here in Hendricks County.

Tell us briefly about your background and what led you to join the board.
I grew up in Clayton and graduated from Cascade High School with the class of 1980. During my sophomore year, I began working as a part-time clerk at the Kroger in Plainfield. I rotated through various store departments before starting management training. I then served the community as an Assistant Manager in the other stores. Following this, I went back to the Plainfield Kroger where I originally started as the Store Manager. I held various leadership roles at the company and retired in 2020 after 42 years. When the Board seat in the area I reside came open, I decided to continue serving our community by running for the seat on the Board.

Which Cooperative Principle most strongly resonates with you?
The Principle I most resonate with is Concern for the Community. Sustainable development within the community, with support from members, is an important aspect of the Cooperative's future.

What is your biggest contribution to the board?
Sharing my business and leadership experience with our Cooperative has been something I will continue to contribute. I also serve as the representative for Hendricks Power on the Indiana Statewide Electric Cooperative Board, where I actively participate in collaborative initiatives that help guide our local Cooperative.
