Hendricks Power Cooperative is seeking members to install load management devices with new wi-fi technology switches. This pilot will allow data collection and analysis for future load management programs, promotion of energy efficiency, and overall cost savings for our members.
The project will last approximately two years.
Hendricks Power will install a smart device on your electric water heater that allows HPC to manage when energy is sent to your water heater.
Yes, the smart device will not adjust your water heater temperature–just the time when energy is being used to heat your water. Normally, 99% of customers never notice, because your water heater is designed to store hot water for many hours between uses.
Controls will vary throughout the two-year program, but members are able to opt-out of control events at any time. Controls will not take place on weekends or holidays.
Participants will receive a one-time $50 credit on their Hendricks Power Cooperative bill.
No, HPC will have a licensed electrician install the smart device, as well as remove your existing device. Installation should take approximately an hour. You must be home for the installation. Wifi and smart phone must be accessible for set-up.
No, not at all.
Yes. Please contact the Hendricks Power Cooperative office at 317-745-5473 to have the Wi-Fi device reinstalled.
No.
Load management is way of deferring some electricity use (load) from peak periods when energy is most expensive. We do this by temporarily interrupting power to water heaters. When we reduce the energy use during peak times, we forestall the need to build new, expensive electrical generation facilities and transmission equipment to meet your electrical needs. Load management also provides for more efficient use of the facilities we have, which means we can hold future rate increases to a minimum.
